Let me start by saying that I'm absolutely certain that 99.5% of the people here at The Canvas have no idea who I am. I'm a Liason fan. I have been since their first meeting in Jake's. I'm a lurker. I've been here for years; I've been at Liason boards that are long defunct and Liason boards that still remain.
So what bring me out now? I'm sure that it isn't that hard to guess. I'd like to have a discussion about the obvious problem that it surrounding The Canvas right now. I'll admit that when this entire situation regarding the gifting of TC blew up I was a little taken aback. I've been reading for several days, trying to gather my thoughts on the situation. And frankly, I don't think it's asking too much to have an open and honest conversation about what is happening.
To start, somebody is lying. In fact at least two people are lying. How do I know that? Because there are three stories circulating about how the transfer of ownership of TC happened. We have Amy's version, Brooke's version, and Casey & KoKo's version. I have my personal beliefs about who is telling the truth in this situation, and the steps that should be taken to rectify it, but that isn't really the point of this post. The POINT, is that as members of The Canvas we all have the RIGHT to be able to discuss our thoughts and concerns regarding this issue. I'm not condoning members who begin name-calling and bashing, but having an adult conversation regarding the matter really isn't too much to ask. More upsetting to me that the problem that started this entire mess is the fact that the members of The Canvas are not being permitted to express their opinions.
I find it disturbing that the original thread created to give The Canvas members the "411" was shut down. Amy has stated that everyone was talking in "circles and ovals". Okay. So? I'm sure that there are plenty of people who found that thread, or heard about it, after the thread had already been shut down. People who only venture online every few days, people who have to work during the day and don't have internet access at work. By shutting down the thread my chance to express my opinion was taken away from me. If I want to talk in circles, oval or triangles isn't that my right? Isn't it yours?
There are messages stating that nobody has been banned, then messages stating that those banned may be reinstated. And who decides what is "destructive" to the board. Is somebody including a link in their signature "destructive"? If not, why are signatures, avatars, threads, posts being removed? Am I being destructive?
I've seen many people post that at the end of the day that this board should only be about Liason. Really? At the end of the day are you happy pushing aside injustices for a television couple? Is a fictional couple really, REALLY more important than standing up for the things you believe in? Is a fictional couple a good reason to look the other way? I would hope that at the end of that day that we're all a little more grounded in reality than that.
I respectfully request that the current admins/mods either
1) unlock the 411 thread, or
2) create a new thread
that permits the members of The Canvas to have an open discussion regarding the current state of affairs of this board.
Your time and consideration of this matter are appreciated.
Can somebody please explain to me why this is funny? I thought we might actually get an honest discussion about the state of affairs. Instead Amy continues to make light of what is actually a very serious situation. Disappearing threads, vanishing posts and banned members isn't something to make a mockery of.
For me this has extended far beyond the original issue of who this board belongs to. The way this entire matter has been addressed is incredibly heavy handed. The moderators continue to issue posts with their side of the story without allowing public response from the members of The Canvas. Why exactly must I get Casey and KoKo's version of events through PM? Do you really believe that anything sent via PM by Brooke or Amy at this point is going to be truthful? If truth is really on their side then why are they so afraid to allow conversation?
I have previously respectfully requested that we be permitted to discuss this matter in the open. That post was deleted. Perhaps my respect wasn't deserved.
) But I did browse when time
permitted.
So I let it be……
As you are aware, in early March 2008, ownership of The Canvas Messageboard changed hands.
Over the past 24 hours, Casey and/or Koko were on TC claiming that TC had been "stolen" from them.
This post is to advise all our chatters, posters and lurkers as to how the change in ownership happened.
Since Brooke and I, together with the fan fic archivers, were given our positions at TC several years ago, we have always given our posters, chatters and lurkers the opportunity to contact Casey and Koko directly with their concerns, questions, etc. Many posters, including us, have been unable to contact either Casey or Koko via PM or email.
This was not always unusual because Casey and Koko tended to take a very hands off approach to running this board. Months would go by without any interaction from them. We had learned to move forward with the day-to-day operation and fun of this board with limited/no input from them.
In December 2007, we were contacted Yuku advising that they had been contacted by several TC posters about the posters' inability to contact the Casey and/or Koko with questions or concerns. Yuku asked if we had been in contact with Casey or Koko in recent months -- we stated that we had not been contacted recently. Yuku then advised us that they planned to contact Casey and/or Koko with a deadline of 30 days to respond.
Casey and/or Koko failed to respond to Yuku's email and the board was considered abandoned.
Yuku specifically stated to us:
We haven't heard from the administrators, and the emails to some of them bounced, so we need to do a transfer of ownership.
Yuku stated that the board would be shut down in 14 days or two weeks if they did not transfer ownership.
We assumed ownership of the board.
There was no plotting done to overtake the board. There was and is nothing secretive about this situation. Please feel free to contact Yuku if you wish to ask more questions.
We have nothing to hide.
As always, if you have questions, you know where to find us...
Amy & Brooke
